The Blogs & Naysayers of Scissor Sharpening Machines
Interested in Scissor Sharpening Machines? I'll see you in class!

If you are new to scissor sharpening, I understand your frustration in trying to figure out who is telling the truth about scissor sharpening and scissor sharpening machines. I have been in your position. It took me years and a lot of wasted money to figure all this out. I hope I can spare you the pain of what I went thru. I have been associated with two of the scissor sharpening machine companies that you may be considering. This is the absolute truth: "If I could not use my current system, I would not be a scissor sharpener and would go back to being a hair stylist".
I've been told that I was requiring training just to get more money. This makes me laugh. Teaching a class for 5 full days takes a tremendous amount of preparation and planning. Trying to get everything covered in 5 days is very difficult. I could do 10 days, but it is not sellable. The truth is that I could sell my machines faster than I could make them if I did not require trainging in order to purchase. My own students have said that they didn't think this should be done via video.
There are at least a few blogs and naysayers going around that are just simply not telling the truth about Xzacta Shears and even others. I choose not to confront this because I knew it was going to happen. Keep in mind that owners of blogs about scissor sharpening can have control of who is allowed to post, edit and delete posts, and manipulate the blog for their own purposes. This is in fact being done. Beware in particular of blogs and websites for that matter that do not give you easy "contact information".
Some have said that the Xzacta Shears Scissor Guide Machine will not honor a 800 mm radius. This is just simply absolutely not true. The scissor sharpening guide machine will not only absolutely honor an existing 800 mm radius, but it will honor any manufactured radius with a precise angle along the blade when used according to directions. This is very important: I teach Xzacta Scissor Sharpeners to SAVE scissors when possible. We do not restore. Restoration of a removed 800 mm radius will beyond any doubt tremendously decrease the serviceable life of the shears and it is highly probable that they could be unuseable. "There is not a machine available that on it's own restore a 800 mm radius, nor would anyone who understood the mechanics want to use it if it did". The Xzacta Technician could restore a radius with the guide system. I emphatically tell them, "DON'T DO IT...SAVE...DON'T RESTORE". And the Xzacta Shears Guide Machine will maintain a precise angle along the blade no matter what the radius. It will also also do the same for "curved" shears. The machine that claims restoration of the 800 mm radius changes the angle along the blade if the shear is not an 800 mm. The more off from 800 mm, the more the change. I know... I've used it unfortunately. The majority of shears that you will sharpen will not have a 800, either because it wasn't manufactured or because other sharpening systems have removed. This happens even with the "flat hone machines" because of aggressive pads and the way nearly all the companies teach sharpeners to engage the blade to the pad. There is one way, and one way only, to even begin to remove an equal amount of metal along the blade... that is by sharpening on the outside edge of the pad and moving the blade evenly across the pad. The Xzacta Shears Guide Machine is the only pending patent that is presented this way. Any other way makes the machines and all their claims the equivalent of "grinders".
